At Augmenta, we want things to be simple and fast. Our sensors are designed to be as plug & play as possible, so you can get them running without losing time.
We’ve created accessories that fit well into the AV world, but since every project is different, here are a few practical tips & tricks to help you hang your sensors the right way.
3D cameras
Temporary installation
Temporary installations require fast setup and dismantling. They usually use hanging mounts on different types of truss structures.
The default Augmenta accessories are designed for this kind of setup, or for an easy snap-in in your studio or desk.
We provide :
- a magic arm and a clamp for quick sensor hanging
- mounts adapted to sensor orientation and safety requirements
⚠️
Safety recommendation : Always use a safety sling !
Permanent installation
For permanent setups (museums, immersive spaces, theme park, etc), we recommend a more robust system, often site-dependent.
- Avoid using clamps, prefer mounts screwed to walls or ceilings.
- Some users still rely on the magic arm, but a dedicated accessory or custom-built mount is often better.
Option 1 : Use a specific accessory
There are many ways to secure sensors to flat surfaces while keeping orientation flexibility.
Option 2 : Call a professional
Every site is unique. Correctly hanging a sensor depends on multiple parameters (architecture, safety rules, country standards).
👉 A professional integrator can design and build the right solution.
Tips for permanent setups :
- Sensors must be oriented precisely during installation or maintenance.
- Once calibrated, sensors should move as little as possible (vibrations = more recalibration).
- Watch out for :
- Dilatation of structures in hot climates
- Earthquakes
- Ceiling vibrations (footsteps, nearby roads, construction)
- Warm airflows (e.g., projector exhausts) → may cause overheating and deformation
- Ambient temperature around the sensors
- Always use accessories and cables with the correct IP rating.
- Most default Augmenta accessories are indoor-only, but outdoor-rated options are available, contact us to know more
Outdoor installation
Outdoor setups follow the same principles as temporary or permanent ones, with extra constraints.
Conclusion
The performance of your Augmenta installation also depends on the quality of the physical integration. Hanging sensors is often overlooked, yet it plays a key role in accuracy and stability over time.
2D LiDARs
For hand precision, we recommend installing the fine-tuning mount directly on the wall :
For finger precision, we recommend placing the front of the LiDAR flush against the wall, like this :
